Product Description
The Weymouth, or curb bit, in a double bridle consists of a mouthpiece with shanks and a curb chain.
The Weymouth works on several parts of a horse's head and mouth. The bit mouthpiece acts on the bars, tongue and roof of the mouth. The shanks add leverage and place pressure on the poll via the crownpiece of the bridle, to the chin groove via the curb chain, and, especially with a "loose jaw" shank, may act on the sides of the mouth and jaw.
Supplied with English Curb Chain and hooks.
The Happy Tongue Forward is a solid mouth bit which is ported to relieve tongue pressure and forward curved as you find on the traditional "happy tongue" - this bit is different to the "Weymouth Happy Tongue Straight" which is ported but not forward curved. The Happy Tongue Forward is slightly less harsh than the straight Happy Tongue. This bit complies with FEI requirements and is BD Legal.
The blue sweet iron mouthpiece oxidises easily, warms up quickly and tastes sweet in the horse's mouth, which encourages the horse to salivate and accept the bit without resistance.
British Dressage legal.
Product Size
This mouthpiece comes up large - for instance we find the 140mm fits more like a 150mm. As a general rule we recommend to order 1/2 inch down.
Bit sizing is something many people struggle with - it is not an exact science as it depends largely on what bit you are using both in terms of the mouthpiece and the cheek pieces - please contact us if you require any help with sizing at info@theyard-equine.co.uk.
If your current bit is a loose ring type action then you also need to also deduct -5mm from that as you are moving to a fixed cheek action on this bit, and then deduct the 1/2 inch.
Product Care
Wash regularly in warm water. In time the blue on the sweet iron will naturally fade and rust. Please see our Bomber Sweet Iron Bit Care Guide here.
